Andre
Apprenticeship placement
Andre started his apprenticeship in January 2023. In June 2024 he completed his apprenticeship as a Quality Engineer. In January 2025 he was promoted to Software Development Engineer in Test
What have you enjoyed most about the placement?
I moved across teams a lot so I got to work on all different kinds of work. I have good variety in my work here at Flooid.
What real-world projects did you work on?
I’ve worked on the software used by Marks & Spencer.
What have been your highlights? / What is the best activity/project you have worked on during your apprenticeship? / Are there any team wins that have happened that you can describe?
I helped move the automation testing effort in my team away from developers on to quality engineers which has helped improve automation test quality and improve the speed of development.
What new skills have you learned?
Teamwork and collaboration, work prioritisation and how to work under deadlines, leadership with training others, and using a wide variety of software tools.
What have you found challenging?
Because of the amount there is to learn, it sometimes felt overwhelming and that it was hard to keep up with everyone else. I had great support from colleagues to get me through though.
Tell us about your experience applying for the apprenticeship/How did you find the application process overall?
It was a smooth process overall. I had enough time to prepare and had a good idea what to expect on the day of the interview. The final stage of my interview was an onsite group interview with other applicants.
Did you feel you were well informed in the run up to your apprenticeship?
Yes. Both Flooid and Digital Native, the apprenticeship provider, gave me all the information I needed about the apprenticeship before starting to make an informed decision.
Were you nervous about before starting your placement role with Flooid?
Yes, but that’s natural when starting any new job. I soon settled in.
How do you feel you have settled into the team?
Very well. The people at Flooid are friendly and helpful. Always willing to answer questions.
What advice would you give to others thinking of applying?/ Do you have any advice for others considering an apprenticeship at Flooid?
You can build a career working at Flooid, but it takes hard work and time. The team at Flooid are really helpful if you have additional questions which may help you consider if this is the career path you want to follow before applying.
What’s next ?
I recently got promoted to SDET (Software Developer in Test) so I’m working on learning as much as I can and improving my skills in this new role.
