Today is International Women’s Day. IWD began in 1911 to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

We asked five of Flooid’s female leaders to share their thoughts on how women can #BreakTheBias to create a world that’s more diverse, equitable and inclusive.

Donna Stevens, Group VP, Product

“Women have always been the strength and creative force behind change and results. The #BreakTheBias theme is about creating a world where difference is valued and celebrated. Women bring a diverse array of experiences, perspectives and positions, and as I look at my female colleagues and friends, I see innovative, brave and creative responses that smash through norms and challenge the status quo.”

Elizabeth Scheper, Senior VP, Finance

“Flooid has committed to my growth all the way to SVP by acknowledging my qualifications for the role rather than anything else. Flooid has treated me with great equity in my role, rather than equality with my male peers, because my life isn’t the same as my male peers. My life demands are different and it is so important to me that this is recognized, appreciated, and supported.”

“Empowerment and diversity are two of Flooid’s core values, which we re-emphasize on important days such as today.”

- Diane Palmquist, CEO, Flooid

Lisa Bowden, Product Manager

“I have spent over 20 years in the IT industry in a male-dominated environment.  I can’t say I’ve experienced any bias, although I know many who have. I always try to be myself at work; International Women’s Day reminds us that it’s important to be who ‘you’ are, rather than fit anyone else’s notion of what you should be.”

Sandra Vincent, Group Head of PMO

“Today reminds us to acknowledge and celebrate female success, wherever it may be and whatever form it might take. It also reminds us of where we’ve come from; the technology industry is a lot different today from 30 years ago.

“For me individual female success is dependent on two things; the courage to develop and be yourself rather than conform to others’ expectations, and being in an environment that values difference, instead of trying to diminish it.”

Diane Palmquist, CEO

“I believe the main message of International Women’s Day is one of aspiration. It reminds us to encourage and support everyone to become the best that they can be. That’s what we try to do at Flooid.”
